Where am i going wrong on gas??? Thermostat set at 19.5°c and not on all day.....0 -
This will paint a more realistic picture!
3 bed modernish bungalow, condensing boiler, heating on 7am til 1030pm. This cold weather using 100kwh per day. Average over the year is 43kwh per day.
Electric is fairly constant at 10kwh per day, slightly less in summer.
To only use 10kwh per day with heating on 6am to 8pm is unrealistic as the smallest boilers are rated at about 12kw so that would mean the boiler only being "lit" for less than 1 hour per day, and that is excluding other appliances like cookers.
I would say your 23kwh is quite good, your thermostat setting at19.5 is low and you say not on all day so usage is perhaps normal for you. My thermostat is set at 22 degrees for some of the day.0 -
I am wondering if there is a bit of confusion with the readings. My reading is imperial so I have to convert into kwh using the formula on gas bill.
My usuage is:- Electric 12 kwh per day average winter
Gas 4 kwh per day average winter
I live in a 3 bed semi waiting for cavity wall to be done and have a very old boiler.0 -
Oh no!!!!! sorry I have just done it now-- not converted reading- silly me
gas should read 126 kwh sorry0 -

4 kw/h would barely cover the pilot light would it? How man cubic feet are you using (according to your meter)?chrissie_bond wrote: »I am wondering if there is a bit of confusion with the readings. My reading is imperial so I have to convert into kwh using the formula on gas bill.

edit: you beat me to it!!0 -
This is the trouble with this sort of thread. Too many people don't understand that "1 unit" of gas is not the same house to house - as some have Imperial meters, some have metric - and then you need to convert your "unit" into Kw/h.
Too many variables also.- Someone living in Plymouth for example, that has consistently seen 8 or 9C over recent weeks will use an awful lot less heat than someone living further North where the temperatures have struggled to go above freezing for the last few weeks.
 - What temperature is your heating set to and for how many hours.
 - What type of heating do you have - age of boiler etc.
 - How good is your insulation?

Edit - for completeness I'll add my readings, but to make my point - do you know how big my house is? - whether I heat a conservatory? - what the outdoor temperatures have been in the last month? - What type of heating I have?
Both my electric & gas are approx 40Kw/h per day in this cold weather.0 -
If you use the imeasure site you can enter your weekly readings and get graphs of costs and comparison data.
Find them at http://imeasure.org.uk/
For what its worth last week with the cold weather I used 350 Kwh of gas and 45 Kwh of electricity, 3 bed mid terrace. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
