Extra thick bread

Hi I am a lurker on the OS board and have found load of tips and recipes - thanks to you all! I am trying to get out of debt and loose weight this year - and reducing waste food and reducuing food bill is one of my top prioroties.
I ordered Asda on line just before Christmas and somehow managed to order 3 loaves of extra thick sliced white bread! We just about managed to eat one loaf - the slices are so thick they look like 2 slices stuck together and only just fit in a wide slot toaster!!
I have 2 loaves left in the freezer and I have no idea what I can do with it - no one in the house likes it!
It is taking up valuable freezer space so I am looking for suggestions on what I can make with it! No one likes bread and butter pudding either!
Sensible suggestions only please:D It is so thick I think it would sink the local ducks!

no one likes bread and butter pudding? oh dear.
I can remember my nan doing a bread pudding using leftover bread. she took the crust off then soaked the bread in milk and water overnight. the next day she added currants about 2 ozs of butter chopped up a little sugar and put in a baking tin. then she sprinkled more sugar on top. then baked in a slow oven for i think about 35 to 40 minutes. then left to get cold and cut into squares. us kids thought it a real treat. maybe another poster will remember the real recipe! cos it really was lovely and i only think this is how she made it!0 -

You could try halving each slice - lay flat, hand on top, then a bit of horizontal bread-knifery. I've occasionally done this to get thin toast from normal thick-sliced, but this really needs toasting first (then toast the inside bits under the grill, not a toaster).0

I saw thick slices and thick crusts in half. Lay it down flat and get a bread knife, rest your hand on the top of the slice and saw it in half sideways.
Doesnt work on soggy bread!''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
