Yep. Unless you are an english hating Mel Gibson that is! (HE nearly made me puke at the historic inaccuracies in "The Patriot").

D'you know that he wore Avon dry oil spray (the green one) to keep the mozzies at bay when filming Braveheart?

A useless bit of trivia I could have submitted to misskool's New Year's Eve party. :)

As someone in the middle of a History degree who specializes in 18th/19th century stuff, makes me puke is putting it lightly.

Excellent question. I'm still looking into things to be honest, thought about publishing but it's very competitive and I'm not sure it's for me, then thought about management consulting but I don't how I'd feel putting people out of work for a living to justify my own existence (no offence to any management consultants out there but that's how it looks!, I'm happy to be proved wrong) ... and then I keep looking at Financial Services companies who seem to like graduates from 'other disciplines'; good money, but not sure I'm cut out for it.

I graduate in July, so I'm a bit stuck, but the plan is to get a full time job, doing whatever I can get my hands on and then work out what I want to do and use the money I'll have hopefully saved to get some work experience or an internship.

Just as long as it's not teaching or a professional historian I don't mind!

Hope you find a niche that suits your personality. I wouldn't want to sell my soul either!

Research, politics (:p) or journalism other options? Though a business field is probably more lucrative.

Research, too lonely. Politics, too soul destroying. Journalism I did consider, but the money's not great and I don't think it's particularly family friendly for if/when I get there. :) Honestly I think I've covered everything, I definitely think too much!

I do wonder if I'm a bit picky sometimes. It's quite exciting, though, not knowing what I'm doing. First time in my life I've had no idea!

You could try for a local government management trainee scheme? You wouldn't be able to speak to Donald Tramp or The White Horse again but, hey, no hardship there. ;)

Is there any scope / point to doing a masters at this point? My DD finishes her B.Sc. this year and is thinking of going down this route. She says there are too many people with first degrees nowadays and she may need a masters to give her the edge.

If UK plc could export and make money from Politician promises, pledges, manifestos, etc, we would be in clover by now.

It's not grand ideals we are short of, it's efficient execution of practical ideas designed to make the most of what we have.

I still think a war cabinet would serve us best, focussing on hitting an extremely aggressive fiscal target, aimed at securing the best servicing cost for our debt.

I couldn't give a monkeys for Left or Right wing political agendas right now. We can worry about the fair society once we have the means to pay it.
