LeedsMan debt free diary

Happy New Year everyone. Just found this website and its pretty good. Just so happened that things at home have come to a head. Like most people the debts, waste line have increased, and income has gone down. Could not get to sleep Last night, i could not get to sleep and I was dreading this year. Its a make or brake year. I very overweight, heavy in debt and need to increase my income. So heres the debt...

Mortgage £249000 at 4% - 2 month arrears. Lender are okay for now
Halifax loans £7500 at 0% as defaulted. Paying £265 per month. Halifax are okay for now
Halifax credit card - £679 paying £100 per month.
Ex employer £1500 - to agree the amount and sort out.
Tax bill to pay this year £5200
Family member £60000. Come to this later.

So thats it on the debts side. I'm 19 stone but still good looking !!. I got to get this weight off as it effects my job and health. I'm starting to get health issues but by losing the weight those will go away.

I work for myself. I can not go bankruyt or IVA. I got to increase my income. In my job, I can. I'm going to increase my income and pay this debt off as I'm sick of it. The phone calls, stress etc. I earn £75000 pa - but after bills etc - there nothing left- or if so, it disappears. With your help and me helping you - we can do this.

My aims are to get rid of the arrears, tax, halifax, ex employer, etc. Lose about 5 stone and increase my income - Ive set targets but I can let you know as time passes.

The family member. Not saying how it is - but £13000 has to be paid back this year and the rest... Lets say - I'l tell you later.
My aim is to update twice a week. So lets start. All the best and I'll update on Wed's.

    Hi LeedsMan

Well done on starting a diary! Probably the best thing I have ever done financially. The need to update it spurs you on to do things so that you can update with positive news. It might seem like you have loads to do, but just try and do something every day to improve things, whether it be going for a brisk walk or earning some extra money. Small steps soon turn into giant leaps.

Would you consider posting an SOA? There may be ways for you to save money without working harder. Also, if you're not already aware of it, use quidco, it's amazing. It's the easiest money I've ever made!

    All the best for 2010!!

    Hi LM, welcome

As Gwen has said, the best thing you can do is fill out your SOA (statement of affairs) and post it on your diary and people can look over it and point out ways to help you cut down spending or save money.

I think your priority is your mortgage, you can't afford to lose your house.

Spend some time today filling out your SOA and let us help you xx

Here's a link to an SOA form you can fill out:

    Statement of Affairs

Then you can copy and paste the results onto your diary.

    Hope that helps :)

  • Hi Leedsman

    Im new to this too!

I feel so much better for having admitted I need to sort things out - hopefully you feel the same now.

I am also trying to lose weight but am not going to join a slimming club because its too expensive. Instead I will just try to eat healthily and take it slow and steady.

    Good luck!
  • I've looked threw my overheads. Spending £202 per month on gass and electric. Can not reduce it and looked around. Can not get any savings plus get tesco points with Eon. Plus have a big house. Insurances - again looked around and can not save. There is only to a point so much you can save per month. Even thought of selling the wife and children or selling myself for medical research. That went down like a lead balloon. Although they are happy to see me been sold !!. So I have a business plan in place which starts tomorrow. The family debt has been around for a long time. You know how it is, been together for 25 years since 16, and when you have family agruements about things in the past and they do not let it go, ie look them in the eye - sort of thing. I've paid for this - i'll bailed you out - even though it was 10 years ago - sort of feeling. I've added it up and a few other things. For once - I'm going to shut time up about things. Just think of the felling. Thanks goodness, that I'm in a job where I can increase my earnings. Like most people - now, have to dig yourselfs out of the hole and not fall back into it. All the best everyone and talk to you later....
  • Had a good two days. Phoning clients up, signing up new business - thus keeping the wolf from the door. Increasing my income will take a month or so, I think the cars needs servicing with all this snow - esp the tyres ... I've eaten a lot less over the past 4 days and feel better. Although excercise would also be better, but with this snow ewtc - its differcult. Talk to you soon.

    Hi LeedsMan

There may be ways we can help you reduce your energy consumption.

Have a word with our Energy Efficiency team. Give them details of your appliances and they will be happy to talk to you about ways you may be able to cut back.

Ask for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of useful energy saving ideas.

Check out our website (there is a link in my Personal Profile); particularly the interactive house, energy menu and Winter Advice Bureau. Lots of good tips here, too.

The 10:10 campaign might also be of interest. This is to help customers reduce their energy consumption by 10 per cent by the end of 2010. Again, details are on our website.

Are you on the best tariff for your circumstances? Extra discounts are available for paying by monthly Direct Debit and for managing your account online.

I would also pop you usage on to one of the comparison sites to see how we stack up.

Just a heads up Leedsman, if you decide to change supplier please note we don't give discount on final bills. Therefore, it would benefit you to time a switch to lessen the impact of this.

Hope this helps and good luck with reducing the debts. Give me a shout if you need any more info; will be happy to help. :)
