Barclaycard/Mercers help/advice please

Hi there,

I recently set up a payment plan with Mercers which would settle my Barclaycard debt fully and finally if I make 3 payments which were half the original debt.

I've now received my latest statement expecting it to be clear and it's still showing I owe a large amount.

I've tried speaking to both Mercers and Barclaycard and neither have any evidence of such agreement and I'm being passes from pillar to post and now have to phone back on Tuesday.

I do have a copy of the original letter sent by Mercers letter and all payments were made by the deadline so I really am at a loss as what to do next. Obviously now that I have found this site I know that they are the same company and that they do pass you back and forth without telling you but as I had to borrow the money (from my OH) to settle the account thinking it would help me in the long term I really need to know what I should do next!

If anyone can help or has had the same experience please let me know.

Thank you

Chloe

  • Hi Chloe,
Send to Barclaycard by Letter a copy of this original letter stating you have paid the agreed repayment in full and final settlement of the account, and ask them to confirm back to you in writing that the account is now settled.
    Do not Telephone Them.

I can get the address for you if need be
Don't let them panic you (and do not communicate with them by telephone even if they ring you)

    Good luck x

Maximum Debt £33k in 2007  all on CC's (I know, lesson learned; never consolidate and not cut up the cards!)
Now completely debt free, but it was a double edged sword :(

Ignore Mercers and send a copy of the letter to Barclaycard Collections Dept.

  • Thank you both so much, I'll send the letter off today. Unfortunately it's a but late to ignore mercers as I've already paid what I thought was a valid agreement.

I meant ignore them from now on. Only contact Barclaycard directly, if you dont get confirmation back from them, then make a Complaint to their Collections Department and they will HAVE to deal with it.

The Collections Dept are at PO BOX 5407, Northampton, NN4 1ZR. Lynne Dineen is Head, or Colin Rogers is a good contact.

  • Thanks again, that's a different address to the one I was just given so will use yours instead.
