    How do I change it?

    Thanks

you need to disconnect from the network, then reconnect to the network and it should ask you to type the WPA code in to successfully connect to the network.
  • A daft question but always better to ask - have you used the windows network troubleshooter to see what it thinks is wrong with the connection. I often get drop outs from wireless but find running this solves the issue.

Might help you - or then again :-)

Plug the ethernet cable into the new pc.
In start menu choose 'search' and type in cmd.
When you get the dos prompt type in msconfig.
You should get an ip address such as 198.168.1.1.
In your web browser type the ip address into the address bar.
There should be instructions for how to connect to your particular router.
You may get the passphrase or you may have to make one up.

Futher to above, and hope I am not being basic again, but do you have the original thomson/plusnet instructions which can be found here,http://portal.plus.net/support/hardware/thomson585v7new.pdf and give the ip address as referred to above, and advise the wpa psk is on the bottom of the router - unless of course changed by yourself at some time.

You might have to enable the actual service. See here.

Also, you might have to disable your wireless client software if it's taking precedence over WZC.

It's still not apparent whether it's this or the WPA code (as suggested by another poster) which is the problem for lack of connectivity.

Awesome :D I did this and it worked. I think somebody else suggested this earlier too, but I didn't get around to trying it before you posted it again aswell. I just started the wireless zero configuration and it found the wireless network, we had to type in the WPA key again and it connected fine. Many thanks everybody, my Mum is currently surfing the net wirelessly!!

Another question, I'm not sure whether to start another thread or not, but I'll ask it here anyway. How do we make sure the internet/wireless connection is secure?

    Many thanks again

    Gwen

Modems, wireless and routers are my virtual kryptonite beyond the absolute basic lol, but I will bump this so your new question may get seen :)

When you go to connect to your home network, moving your mouse over your network you should see- security type: wpa2 psk. This is the most secure. If you see WEP, this is the most unsecure.

I've just had a look on my laptop (also connected to the Plusnet wireless router at my Mum's) and it says:

    Network Authentication WPA2-Personal

I'm hoping that's ok then. I'll check the desktop shortly.

    Thanks
