How long to home made mince pies last?

Hi all,

I made mince pies (cheated actually, used ready made pastry and jars of mincemeat, but still look and taste great!) on 23rd December.

My question is when do they go off? I have them in a tin with parchment paper between each layer. I have the inlaws arriving tomorrow so don't want to poison them!

Another question, I also froze some, when I have defrosted them how long would they last.

Thank you very much for you ever helpful replies!

In my house, they last about 5 minutes from the time they were cool enough to eat

They won't have gone off yet but the pastry might be a bit stale, try one and see what they taste like.

I'm not sure about the frozen one's, I'd use the ones you've got up first and just get as manyt frozen ones out as you need.

    HTH's.
  • I don't think they would do you any harm if they're a bit stale, but in any case if you warmed them in the oven they would be lovely again.

Just think how long the Mr Kipling stuff lasts... A friend of mine used to work there and could buy the pies and cakes dirt cheap. He never touched the stuff... cos he knew what went into it

How on earth have they lasted for 10 days? When I made some they barely had time to cool down!

It might be a good idea to just warm them up though - the pastry might have gone a bit stale, but it certainly won't be poisonous!

I made so many. My husband munched his way through them on the cooling rack and I stopped him eating too many as I wanted to keep them for Christmas, but what with all the big meals, Yule Logs, Christmas Cake etc despite on average one per person being eaten each day there are still loads left!

I guess the ones in the freezer will stay in there for a few months yet!

    Thanks for your replies.
