It could be easily unlocked by your local small phone shop for around £5/10.Regards
  • You can unlock it yourself if you purchase a usb cable for the phone. You have to flash the software back to an older version, then apply the patch to unlock it, then re-flash it with the newer software. I did it with no problems...

This are the instructions I used:

So far, i have unlocked 2 of mine....they work a-ok....so far.

Please don't screw at me if it doesnt work for you.

    1) you need to determine the firmware version of the V220 you have. To do this, whilst the phone is powered off, press simultaneously, '*', '#' & 'power on button'.

    2) if your firmware version starts with R364, you have the simple task of running a program that will unlock your phone.
If your version starts with R365, you will need to downgrade firmware to R364, unlock it using same software and upgrade back to R365 (dont have to upgrade tho).

    3) Regardless of firmware, for your pc to recognise the phone, you need to install drivers to the pc. The drivers you need is in a zip file called P2KMAN.

    Download it here:
    http://psychy.50megs.com/Motorola Un...g Files/p2kman

Unzip it to a folder. Connect the phone to the computer using a miniUSB cable...it will prompt you to install new hardware. Manually point driver installation to the extracted folder....then to the folder called 'DRV'.

Windows should install it and recognise it as Motorola Interface Device.

    4) if you have R364, run the Motorola Unlocker:

    Download here:
    http://psychy.50megs.com/Motorola Un...for R354 only)

To unlock, put the phone into service status by pressing simultaneously, '*', '#' & 'power on button'.

The screen on the phone should say 'USB Transfer Mode'.
If it doesn't, but says, 'Connect USB Data Cable' even when connected via USB, it means drivers are not installed properly. Install drivers again by pointing them to the DRV folder in the extracted P2KMAN folder.

If screen does say USB Transfer mode, run the Motorola Unlocker and if it says Successful, then your done!

    5) if you have R365, you need to downgrade to R364 before running unlocking software.

Download two files, called PST 6.7 and PST 6.7 Patch.

    PST 6.7: http://www.free.cz/motorola/PST_6.7_GENERAL.zip

    PST 6.7 Patch:
    http://www.free.cz/motorola/PST_6.7_Patch.zip

Unzip and install PST 6.7. Locate the folder it is installed to and copy and paste all the extracted files from PST 6.7 Patch to the location. Overwrite everything.

    6) In the folder where PST 6.7 is installed to...locate the executeable file MultiFlashFlex (MFF). Open it up.

Download this downgraded R364 flash file:
    http://motoaide.com:8081/motorola/fl...1NA112_1FF.zip

Locate the flash file through MFF in the Flash Setup bit. Check enable flash.
Check 'Overwrite existing pheon software...', check 'Master clear phones...', check 'Master reset phones....'.
KEEP 'Simultaneous power down phones....' UNCHECKED!!

Press start to start flashing process.
    Should take a few minutes....

    7) IMPORTANT: Once flashed....power up the phone and power down.
Simultaneously press, '*', '#' & 'power on button' to put into firmware service status....confirm downgrade has been successful by the screen showing R364 firmware.

    8) if it is R364....go to step 4.
If not, repeat step 5, 6 and 7.

Most problems usually comes from the phone drivers not being installed properly...make sure it is.

    9) test the unlocked phone....shove a sim into it.
Should no longer be locked...but might nto work.

    10) Upgrade firmware back to R365....but downloading the R365 flash here:
    http://motoaide.com:8081/motorola/fl...XU1113_1FF.rar

And run it as per step 6.

Think that is it......phew....fingers and brain hurts now. Going back to bed.

PLEASE NOTE....I DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBLITY FOR THIS GOING WRONG. SO FAR, IT HAS WORKED FOR MY 2 PHONES.
DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Anybody seen a review of this? I don't know this one.
The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.
