Best Value chocolate for cooking?

Hi

I am all fired up. My sister gave me some of those little silicon cake moulds - they are so cute.

Has anyone used the value chocolates in making cakes and would you recommend any supermarket in particular?

PS Have done a search but there are so many threads.

I personally love to eat Sainsbury's Basics Chocolate :D I rate both their milk and dark chocolate, far nicer I think to Tesco's. Can't really comment on the white as I've not tried it.

I made lots of homemade chocolates for Christmas gifts this year and used basic/value chocolate (27p) from Morrisons, Asda and Tescos - all tasted fantastic. Also the value dark chocolate had a higher cocoa content than Bournville.

I've used the Asda one (27p) for cooking (and eating!) and its great, and I'm a bit fussy!

I tried asda and think its pretty rank, my son adores Sainsburys but is 11 and a sugar addict! I'd spend a wee bit more and use the aldi single origin bars at about 69p for 125g bar - have various % of cocoa so can choose one t your taste - I like the 55%

Both Asda & Tesco work fine for me. I made real rum truffles for pressies this year and used half plain choc to half milk choc, for them. I also melted some of the plain to make choc coated brazils, the choc set beautifully and glossy

I used a cheap 400g bar of Aldi chocolate to make fridge cake for DH's workmates for Christmas, and it really didn't taste any different to the Dairy Milk I used to make another batch for my own workmates! I'd definitely use it again.

Lidl chocolate in general I find very good, but in particular I've used some plain chocolate in a red cardboard package for cooking (sorry can't remember the name) and it was very good indeed.

I use Tesco value cooking choc to chop up into chunks for choc chip cookies / cakes etc. I find though if i'm covering cakes then the value choc isn't very tasty so i buy scotch bloc (though i've had trouble finding it for a few months)

Thanks everyone. I am going to Lidl soon so will pick up some of theirs. In the meantime I will have a go with Sainsbury's.
