How to hang curtains?

Hi,

I've just bought some new curtains for my new house (in the sales, money saving fans!).

So if you'll excuse my ignorance, how do you hang new curtains?

I've hung already-tightened ones before, but never ones that haven't had the tops pulled.

I've got curtain tracks rather than poles, so do I a) hang the curtains flat then pull the cords, or b) pull the cords, slightly hang, then adust...or neither?

Help!!

i tend to tie the strings at the end that will be in the centre of the window, then gather them tightly from the other end, before hanging - its easier to loosen off the gathers, than try and tighten them, once they are already up - then when they are at the right amount of fullness, tie off the other end of the strings

  • I find it easiest to measure the distance the curtains will have to cover first, then add a couple of inches for overlap. Divide the distance in half and then gather the curtains before they are hung. Keep the long strings on the outside edge of the windows as flea says and evenly space your curtain hooks before you hang the curtain.

    Hope this helps.

As flea says TIE THE STRINGS 1st it's a total pain in the bum to think you are getting the curtains to sit just so then tug them another wee bit & see all you're good work unravel because you (ok I!!) completely forgot to tie the ends together.
    Booo!!!
