Contact the Law Society who should be able to tell you what became of the original firm of solicitors; whether they moved, merged with another firm and changed names or simply closed. If closed then the files should have been absorbed by another firm and the Law Society should have details. I would warn you though that I believe paper files only need to be kept in these type of transactions for around 6 years so the original file may well have been shredded by now.

  • Scary, need to check my paperwork.
I was advised by my solicitor to keep my divorced other halfs' name on the policy for the death benefit should she kick the bucket before me, but would not benefit from the endowment when it matured.
Just hope I have something in writing.

If the solicitor did their job correctly they would have arranged the policy to be assigned to you and there shouldnt be a problem. As you have read, the problem on this thread is because the solicitor didnt do their job correctly. its best to check as these things can take a long time to resolve. You dont want a hold up at maturity if you can help it.
