Hi all
I have been asked by work to attend a training course in the USA in mid 2010.
I have looked on the US embassy website and can't find anything relating to travel restrictions in to the US due to Bankruptcy.
But i was just wondering if anyone knows of any issues?
I may be discharged by the time i go, i may not.
I dont want to go and get it all booked with work only to find i get there and get refused entry.
Cheers & Happy New Year!

Hi, I dont know what the rules are but i know several bankrupts who have both traveled to the USA on visiting and employment visa's.Hi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
I don't know how they'd know unless you told them.

I guessed it would be ok, the only reason i asked is through my line of work, i have to sign official secrets act and fill out MOD security forms etc.
They ask if you have been bankrupt as it makes you more of a risk to be bribed by some terrorists!
I guessed the US may ask a similar question but looks ok.
Thanks!0 -
I dont think being/were a bankrupt ,is going to make people think you are open to offers of terrorism more than anyone else.
The united states have a much more open minded view when it comes to having been br.:D0 -
Hi OP, I'm no expert and can only give an opinion.
The treaty between the US and UK regarding not letting in people with criminal records and "un desirables" is all one way traffic. The US won't let any UK citizen into the country for numerous reasons many of which are minor, however the UK seem to let any US citizen in (unless of certain religous,so called extremists) including people with crimial records in the US for bank robbery, rape and murder to name but a few.
My advice is to get a written answer from the US embassy.......Good luck and Hope all goes well..0 -
I have been back and forth a couple of times to the US since my bankruptcy, for both work and leisure and never had any issues (TBH it never occured to me until I read your post).
So I think you would be ok, unless they werel ooking for a reason to refuse you entry, which sounds unlikely.Louise0 -
we went in september and OH was still BR. We werent asked so never said, he was more worried about his criminal record, as he got in a fight or 2 in his younger days. We got there ok and had a great time in florida.
