Do food shops reduce things on new years eve?

Just wondered if Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons etc reduce their food on New Years eve the same as they do on xmas eve? I'm not sure if they are open tomorrow or not?

  • Well Waitrose were busy reducing their meat/perishable food this morning - knocking off around 30%.

Tesco was reducing fruit & veg pretty cheaply, mushrooms 50p, 1/2 cucumber 20p, bread around 40p.
Very little left to reduce in the Co-op.
Somerfield were just reducing all perishables, inc meat by 75%.
None are open tomorrow. (This was Lydney btw, may be worth checking websites for your local stores.)
We ended up going to all 3 as neither Tesco or Co-op had any local papers left, strangely.

Yup they do! I got a few things and wasn't even planning on buying anything other then porridge I'd clean run out of! Think they'd learnt from Xmas eve though, only a fraction of things reduced and out/on of date left! Good for Tesco for not creating as much waste but would have liked more stuff reduced! Maybe lower prices overall would have been better ;)
  • Tesco yesterday had massive reductions friage full of stuff at around half price was well happy.

Depends if the store was open on NYD or not as anything going out of date for NYD would have been reduced on NYE
