We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
  • The thread viewed count is a lot higher than the replies on nearly all threads.

Ever had that feeling your being watched.

May mean nothing, but may mean a lot;)

Always been like that here, on DFW, and quite frankly most of the other boards as well.

A hell of a lot of people 'lurk' on the MSE boards under normal circumstances.

On boards like this one where a lot of people have to build up courage to post their problems, that is going to be even more prevalent.

Besides, I'm sure a lot of the regulars read the threads but don't always feel the need to post if it's clear people are getting the help they need.

I agree.......perhaps MSE in reality is one of the OR's offices' learning tools?

I think sometimes people get the answers to there problems from just reading the forums and from people replies rather having the need to actually post themselves.

They may be shy and not want to air there dirty laundry in public lol

Thinking of all the threads on all the boards I have read without walking into...

I might be single-handedly responsible for all those 'views' without 'replies'! :o

I'm with fermi and stclair on this one as to the reasons why people read a thread without posting.

    ...

Post christmas always brings a lot of lurkers, That just wanted to get past xmas before faceing there financial problems, the last thing they need to see is the negativaty of some threads of late

Just shows how a thread or post can be mis read doesnt it:confused:

Sorry to play games, but hope it makes some stop and think, and leave this board to do what it does best, help those that need help, and helps those that need help make that first, very hard, post

I agree with all of the above, and am very conscious of my own failings on a number of fronts... :o

However, I have to wonder how inviting, or off-putting, those this thread may be to those who need help, but are wary of putting their lives out their for public scrutiny?

Wondering if we're being watched, with a rolling eye smiley, led(understandably, IMO) to thoughts of Big Brother, and (less understandably, to my mind, but I see the logic in it) to thoughts that the OR might be using the board.

As you say, it shows how a thread can be misread. I'd have been scared stiff at the idea that the board was 'being watched'!! (That from someone who must have been away looking for chocolate when the 'conspiracy theory' gene was being given out! :rotfl:)

Maybe, if we want to invite in those who need help, we need to leave joking aside and come right out and say that?

Say to those who are reading the board because they need help, but aren't posting, that we wish they weren't in a situation which has led them to reading this board, but that we will make them very welcome and do our best to help them if they do post. That we hope that reading the board answers a lot of their questions, even if they don't want to post their own personal situation just yet.

And tell them that, since we are a community, we do have our moments of disagreement :o, but hope that those moments won't put them off seeking the help they can find here.

I'd like to think that the direct approach is less difficult to mis-read. But maybe I've still got that whole Christmas !!!!-eyed optimist thing going on...
