Sorry- yet another bed thread

Hi All
I have spent the last couple of hours looking through the bed posts but am still in need of assistance.
I currently have a v cheapo memory foam mattress. It was great for the first 10 months or so. As a long term back sufferer waking was almost a pleasant experience. Unfortunately I spent a bit too much time in bed following a hernia op and the bed has since suffered. Whilst not visible there is sagging/less elasticity.
Until reading Tim Deegan's comments I had assumed that I just wanted a better quality memory foam mattress.
I started off by looking at the tempur (king size millano with the 22cm deluxe mattress) range and them started to compare them to other brands. Initially I was impressed by the 15 year warranty offered by Tempur but could not find the T&Cs on their site!!! I then looked at a competitor's but was pretty disappointed by them
"(XXXX)-FLEX warrants your Visco-Elastic mattress for a period ten (10) years* against defects in workmanship and materials. Your Mattress will be replaced or repaired, at our option, should it be found defective due to faulty workmanship or structural defects. This includes any deterioration of the main memory foam layers, with an indentation of more than one inch (1") not associated with a sag in the foundation, box spring, platform or cool sleep airflow layer. If such a defect appears during the ten (10) years* of this warranty, we will, at our option, either repair or replace the Mattress. It is understood that this does not include normal increase in softness in the foam, which can occur during normal breaking in, or in lessening of the gradual recovery aspect of the foam. This does not reduce the continual pressure reducing and pressure relief properties of the Mattress"
My understanding of the above is that unless your bed becomes a pancake then "don't phone us". I am not singling out the firm above but I guess that most firms have similar T&Cs.
I am now inclined towards the (full) pocket sprung/memory foam options that Tim refers to.
My budget (for the mattress) is somewhere between £1000 and £1500- the upper ends of the budget will imply eating dog food for a year but at least I can get a decent kip.
Can any one recommend anything?
I quite like firm mattresses
I would rather be warm than cold
Base might be slatted.
I am happy for Tim to recommend some of his own. Given his criticisms of the big sheds I am hoping that he will offer the kind of honest/service that I would like/appreciate.
Thanks in advance

After reading one of the closed bed threads I have found Tims company and looked at some of the matresses on the site.
I had at look at the ottaman bases but dont really like the faux leather- not to worry I am happy to source the base and mattress seperately.
I am drawn towards the "HEALTHBEDS, Davinci 2300" and the Madrid, not sure about the Monaco with its latex foam.
My primary concern with the Davinci is the fact that it is one way up only (out of interest would it be un-usable upside down?)
Is there a big difference between 2300 pockets and 1000 with regard to support etc.?
Additionally why do some have air vents while others don't?
Cheers

As you may have experienced yourself it is very common for the bubbles in reflex foam to burst over time leading to a dip in the mattress. This is one of the down sides to reflex foam/memory foam mattresses. Memory foam is open celled so there are no bubbles to burst, which means that the memory foam (as long as it is good quality) should last far longer than the reflex foam. It appears that Ergoflex are telling you that this will happen, and using the fact that they have told you in order to get out of any warranty claims. You will find that most manufacturers who give long warranties will use similar methods to get out of any claim.
For the reasons above don't be fooled by any extended warranties. All mattresses are usually fully guarantees for 12 months. Then after that period it would depend on the design life of the mattress if you could expect the manufacturer to repair or replace it.
You don't need to spend anywhere near £1000 for a top quality two sided turnable pocket sprung/memory foam mattress.
I can't actually recommend any, as it could be seen as advertising.0 -
Hi Tim
Sorry
I was editing my post as you replied- rather than advertising can you weigh up the pros and cons of the beds that I have added to the end of my previous post- I guess that they are available elsewhere anyway.0 -
BTW Tim
Thank you for pointing out the fact our current bed is reflex foam rather than memory foam. I didn't buy it and it was only intended as a temporary measure (I believe that it was only just over £100 for a 4'6" and so I am not annoyed by the life span).0 -

I'm afraid I can't comment on those items on MSE0 -

ok...
I am a noob here.
I have noticed that some of the mattress threads have got rather messy.
I understand that there might be objections to you advertising directly but I fail to see why there would be any objections to you comparing and contrasting 3 of your own beds that a member has mentioned.
I do not know if this is excessive caution or your behalf or not, either-way any forum that prohibits such activities is extremely restrictive. I use many forums that allow members to tout their wares- I have no problem so long as the members make it known that they are promoting themselves.
This is not intended as a slight on Tim or anyone else but it is rather frustrating. I will now have to email Tims company, await an answer and then post back here so that anyone else with a similar query doesn't have to.
For the record- I had never heard of you Tim before yesterday. And I do need and want to buy a bed

The fact is that I only come on MSE to give honest impartial advice (something that is almost impossible to get anywhere else). I am not on here to advertise, so if I were to comment on any product from my store, then it could be seen as advertising.
Some people can't believe that someone who sells a product can give honest impartial advice about it without any financial gain. But I'm also happy to give advice on fire safety and electroplating (which I don't gain from either). All I want to do is tell people the truth about the many gimmicks and all the hype used in the bed industry.
Sorry but I have to stick to these rules in order to keep these forums impartial.0 -
Hi Tim I see the logic behind your explanation but in reality I am asking you to suggest that one of your products is better (suited to me) than another rather than asking you to compare one of your products to another brand.
That said I respect your decision and will email you directly if that is ok with you.
I would also like subjective comments from others with these beds.

I know what you mean, but if I said that one of my products was better than another, then I would be accused of promoting that product.
