How long does a search stay on your credit file?

Hi

I've just been turned down online for a balance transfer card because of the amount of credit available to us on other cards. Can anyone tell me how long this will stay on file?

Thanks

ITR

  • i *think* its 12 months; but if you do the 6 month rule to apply for stuff then is generally ok [await to be corrected  ]

Experian & Equifax hold details or searches for 12 months, Call credit for 24 months, however most lenders are only really concerned with the last six months
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them

its 12 months, as an x credit analyst. it really doesnt matter when the searches were we looked at the 1st 6 months 1st then the whole as a 12 months to make a decision, id say i would approve at around 15-20 searches being ok.
