Looking for a good solicitor

Hi
I am looking for a good solicitor to make some alterations to my mother's will, a deed of variation.
Not really sure about how to find one. The one's that we have used in the past have either retired, or not been very good. Apart from word of mouth (proving unsucessful) what is the best way of finding a solictor who has experience in this area, will do a good job and not charge the moon and stars?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks
F

A solicitor with a STEP qualification would be your first 'must-have', IMO. That should give you 2 out of your 3 requirements, anyway. ;)

However, if Trusts are involved, you could also consult a STEP qualified accountant. I've recently had a free hour with one of those, and it was extremely helpful! So much so that once we're close to getting probate, we'll be back and ready to pay for some help with that.

I don't live in that region so afraid I can't help further but wish you luck with it.
