i have a 16 month old ssangyong rodius, missed its 1st service, engine died on motorway, no warning lights came on , manufacturer claims no service no warranty cover, dealership claims car was out of oil and doesnt have a warning light despite it being clearly identified in car manual,£12,000 of damage, has anyone had similar problems or could advise on the existence of an oil warning light in this vehicle

well oil checks are part of the checks a driver should do
you cant rely on an oil light.new engines can have a high oil consumption,i have seen cars use a litre a month!! so in 16 months it could easily use its oil
since you didnt check the oil or get it serviced you are on a poor footing vs the dealer0 -
Do you mean in 16 mths of having it you never checked its oil?~We are all going to hell and guess who Is driving the bus~*Norn Iron club Member 294* (Hi, we’ve had to remove part of your signature. I think you'll find the warranty paperwork will clearly state that services have to be carried out when specified otherwise the warranty will be invalidated. Much as I resent paying service charges to dealerships, there are times when you shouldn't avoid them I'm afraid.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Do they not use the old merc 270CDI diesel engine? I'd have thought any competent engine rebuilder could rebuild this for an awful lot less.
I'd be inclined to also check for an engine from a salvage yard and see how that works out.
Also, you'll get a more comprehensive response if you put your query over on the motoring board, rather than the northern ireland board.
Finally, sorry, but you didnt follow the manufacturers guidelines on servicing to uphold the warranty, therefore they are perfectly within their rights to deny the claim.
The fault lies totally with you, NOT the manufacturer or the deaerl.0 -

Agreed. Probably £150 spent servicing the car would have prevented this.0 -
Regular oil changes are essential even if you don't want the expense of a 'full service'. Neglecting this basic requirement can lead to disaster, as you've found out to your cost.0

Read the following & apply to ownership of a car - that's you, that is !! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Actual dialog of a former Word Perfect Customer Support employee:
“Ridge Hall computer assistant; may I help you?”
“Yes, well, I’m having trouble with WordPerfect.”
“What sort of trouble?”
“Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away.”
“Went away?”
“They disappeared.”
“Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing?”
“It’s blank; it won’t accept anything when I type.”
“Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?”>
“How do I tell?”
“Can you see the C: prompt on the screen?”
“What’s a sea-prompt?”
“Never mind. Can you move the cursor around on the screen?”
“There isn’t any cursor: I told you, it won’t accept anything I type.”
“Does your monitor have a power indicator?”
“What’s a monitor?”
“It’s the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have
a little light that tells you when it’s on?”
“I don’t know.”
“Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power
cord goes into it. Can you see that?”
“Yes, I think so.”
“Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it’s plugged into
the wall.”
“…….Yes, it is.”
“When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two
cables plugged into the back of it, not just one?”
“No.”
“Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other
cable.”
“…….Okay, here it is.”
“Follow it for me, and tell me if it’s plugged securely into the back of
your computer.”
“I can’t reach.”
“Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?”
“No.”
“Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?”
“Oh, it’s not because I don’t have the right angle, it’s because it’s dark.”
“Dark?”
“Yes – the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in
from the window.”
“Well, turn on the office light then.”
“I can’t.”
“No? Why not?”
“Because there’s a power outage.”
“A power… A power outage? Aha, Okay, we’ve got it licked now.
Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer
came in?”
“Well, yes, I keep them in the closet.”
“Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it
was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from.”
“Really? Is it that bad?”
“Yes, I’m afraid it is.”
“Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?”
“Tell them you’re too stupid to own a computer.”0 -
which dealer did you buy it from?0

Then post your query there for advice.
My guess is you could have a recon engine supplied & fitted or your old engine refurbed for under £2k but not by the main dealer, go to a good independant!0
