A&L have turned down many people but that Tesco have accepted them. Is it worth appling for a smaller amount with another lender?

I would recommend actually calling up A&L's customer services. They should be able to tell your if there is the potential for further lending from them on their screens. You are more likely to be accepted with who you bank with than a company who you do not have any dealing with as you would be classed as more of a risk due to them not having any previous history with yourself other than the credit searches they perform when you apply for credit with them

We applied for a new loan. After mortgage and other bills come out we have about £1000 disposable per month. New loan was only £60 per month more than what we are already paying.

Okay, phone up your existing loan and ask for a 'top-up'. This will, in effect, close your existing loan and start a whole new loan agreement. Assuming you have not missed any repayments, your much more likely to be accepted this way.
  • All banks are playing silly beggars at the moment. Not content with being propped up by the tax payer, and the recent Supreme Court ruling, they now like to use their heavy stick to berate their loyal customers.

going to ring them today to see if we can get some answers
  • dhevo, did A&L give you a reason for turning you down? Some of the banks are more cautious than others at the moment. A&L is owned by Santander who are not government owned. I would request further information from them considering the good track record you stated. If still now joy then other lenders are available as you mention.

    Good luck

Didn't get anywhere talking to A&L, don't seem interested. Just got passed from one department to another. Is it too soon to apply somewhere else? Used Experian on the 'lower my bills' and they have suggested a few lenders. Is it wise to apply using this and what are my chances of being accepted?
