National Fares Manual 05-NFM05

The new National Fares Manual has been released by ATOC, yet again you have to pay for it and yet again it looks like ATOC with their monopoly do not want you to get your hands on it. Is it because they are frightened you might work out that it is cheaper to buy 10 single tickets then 1 return ticket?
This version is valid for fares from 2nd January 2010 – 22nd May 2010.
The program contains updated National Rail ticket prices, including season tickets and a full selection of Railcard discounted tickets. It also includes PlusBus fares.

It is, but the site's a bit rubbish.
Click on "downloads" and then download the top right hand file, despite it showing the wrong "to" and "from" dates.
It's a bit of a geeky application - not exactly a work of simplicity to evaluate the fares from A to B via C,D,E,F,G, etc.
It also doesn't show you which of the various fares are available when - so, you can find out what the minimum possible fare is, but might never actually be able to book that fare for the journey you wish to make.0 -

Try selecting a fare and pressing F3 which gives you the times/restrictions for that fare.0 -

Yes, but the really cheap fares are normally quota-restricted, which might mean that there is no quota at all - or it's already used up - on the journey you actually want to make.
I agree it's useful in places - like Southeastern - where there seem to be no reservable fares and hence no quotas. Then, all you need to know is the availability restrictions. It is also helpful to see the esoteric variations - e.g. "not London" for routes where nobody in their right mind would go via London, but which are far cheaper.0
