4 month old not drinking much milk

we're on forumulae since the beginning
cow and gate to be precise, but other babies at his age is drinking 8oz most times, while we give our little one 6oz and he's never really finished it.

we feed him almost every 4-5 hours (max), expect during the night where he sleeps a little longer (at times)

there some days where he will drink most 5oz for each feed, but not much more and recently he seems disintrested, hard to feed him as he spits bottle out and doesn't really cry for food. (feeds better when he's half a sleep)

is it worth changing milk brand? i'm not sure as when he does have it well at times, but he is smaller than other babies of his age so want to make sure he eats/drinks well.

however i've read people don't recommend changing milk brand

There is only really a need to worry if he is underweight. He might just be a baby that doesnt need to drain a 8oz bottle every couple of hours. My son drained a 9oz bottle every hour and a half, but my friends baby of a similar age never managed any more than 5 or 6oz every 3-4 hours. Both babies are fine! They all have different appetites, much like adults do.
If you're worried, thats what a health visitor is there for. Changing brands isnt going to affect the babies appetite!

  • My LO is 5 months and still only on 6oz bottkes. I am just starting to introduce baby rice as he is starting to wake sever times a night hungry, but will not drink any more than 6 oz for each bottle, and doesnt usually finish them either.

Dont worry about him, we dont give babies the credit for having sense,
they live by instinct at the moment, he is taking as much as he needs, he knows how much he wants and tells you he doesnt want any more, but he is probably frustrated be cause youre not listening. As long as he is not underweight, is happy and healthy in other respects i wouldnt fret about it.
Which is probably what the health visitor will tell you.
Enjoy him, he'll be grown up in the blink of any eye.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

LO, does that stand for little one?
    anyway he's at 14lbs and a bit
in the red book he's come off the lower quartile line

interesting to read different brand won't affect his appetite
  • When mine started to lose interest in feeding it was usually time to change for the next size up teat, could this be the problem do you think?

I would suggest a change of teat too.

we've changed the teats. tomme tippe 2 now and definately flows out quicker as it spills out

but we did make the mistake in buying the wrong teats, as the first set was the anti colic special one without the air vent, but no where on the packaging mentioned it

    thanks.

wife is more relieved as his last two feeds he's done alot better, but maybe it is his teeth as he keeps chewing things differently and more
