Fantastic, well done you!:j I/we are on a similar mission, MF before i'm 40, the trouble is I only bought my first property in 2002 (76k) and upgraded to a small family sized home (177k)when I got married in 2006, as I am 40 in just over two years time it is a big ask, but we are steaming on and getting there!

Congratulations and no you don't sound smug. It's good to hear your story, just another example that there is more than one way to do it.

Must be a fantastic feeling, thank you for sharing to motivate the rest of us. I'm another aiming for mortgage-free before I'm 40 :j0 -
Its not smug, I find it inspiring. I am 40 with 14 years to go on our mortgage but we will be working on overpaying when the other debt is cleared (very soon).“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Thanks everyone. I have to say the redundancy money does feel like a bit of a 'cheat' but then the point of my working was to clear the mortgage, not because I loved the job, so if they wanted to pay me a years salary without the work bit and that carried me over the line, I would have been a fool not to take it. My redundancy was a bit messy in the end (suppose to go in June and only got out in November) but to have it all done and dusted by the end of the year really feels like a clean (and stress free) slate to begin 2010.
All the best to the rest of you. May you all get help from unexpected places to help you end MF!0 -
Congratulations what a great start to a new year!0
