Hi Sally
Nope - it was a woman, the manager is female too (and so am I if anybody wondered) so no discrimination issues on that score. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
I've just had a look at my employment law book but it doesn't look too hopeful. You'd need to have grounds for demanding extra pay on discrimination terms which you don't seem to have. However, the age discrimination rules come into force in October - is there an age issue perhaps? It doesn't seem fair, whatever. I'm probably not best qualified to advise here. I suggest you PM McBirnie on this one. He/she's a union rep and appears to know his/her onions. What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160

Hi Jessicamb,
I think your best bet is to apply for the job on an "as like" basis.
Basically, as part of the EU, there is a ruling that if you are doing a job, and your colleagues earn more than you for doing the same job, you should be bought in line and have equal pay.
The prior advice is good, firstly, speak to your boss, they may be able to transfer you internally in to the post, and advertise your position.
Otherwise, apply externally. If you get fobbed off, ask on what grounds. Anybody can apply externally for a vacancy, even if it is within their own company. I would ask for a copy of the policy on this, this will more than likely be in your employee handbook. Get a copy of the refusal in writing, and come back to me, we will put stage 2 in to action then.
Have a good weekend.
P.S Minnie, I am definitely a male ;-)0 -
