I agree with a previous post - the best option I have ever used was a built in electric fan assisted oven with a gas hob; much easier to control.

I was lucky enough to have a new kitchen two years ago. I told the designer that I wanted to have two full size ovens, one all singing and dancing and the other bog standard. He told me there was no need for that, as Fisher and Paykel offer the only unit with two full size ovens. Each has all functions, but I tend to use fan the most. I use it on very low for proving bread as well.

I have a five burner gas hob as well, one is a big burner, one small for simmmering and the other three normal size.

I'm quite pleased with both, but wish that the lowest gas was lower still. oven has its own limitations but so handy I can deal with it. Also has top heat, bottom heat, both convection, grill and fan grill. As with all these things there tends to be your own default setting!

If I have say one small thing, like a cake, I do it in the micro combi. Cakes cook very quickly on combi setting!

I have an electric hob and electric fan oven. Both do the job perfectly well. Having watched my mother try and cook christmas dinner with her gas hob i'm very glad i dont have one!
It may be a problem with the gas supply in her area but she can only have one pot on to boil at a time:confused: She can have all four rings on but if you turn one up, the others go down! It is about 17 years old though and may be giving up the ghost.
She is replacing them in January with a new double electric oven with that funky incinerate all dirt off the inside function (i want one), and an induction hob.

  • I've had an electric fan oven plus a gas hob for the past 17 years and wouldn't want any other.

My current cooker is a Neff.

I know lots of people on here talking about gas hobs and I used to be a great believer in them too until I was converted to induction hobs.

They are electric but they have precise temperature control. Mine has 9 steps with a half step in between, a keep warm and a powerboost function.

Induction cooking is the most energy efficient and I can say with just as much control as gas. They are more expensive but if you can afford it, I would say go for it.

The neatest thing is that if anything spills during cooking I can pick up the pan and wipe it off without burning myself. And in the world smallest kitchen, we can use it as a staging area when cooking as it's a flat surface!

Gas hob & electric fan oven
my oven has a function where you can set it to come on at a set time and cook for a set length of time (think they all have this now...) and its invaluable when you want something ready when you come home, I also use the SC but find this really useful and wouldn't be without it next time.

  • Glad I found this thread as we are about to spend a hell of a lot of money on a rangemaster for our new kitchen.

Ive always had gas hob and oven and had no problems.

However.........most of the rangemasters come with gas hobs and electric fan ovens which I have never used and am wary about.

Don't know whether to risk it? They do seem cheaper to run.......or go for all gas that I am used to?

  • I have a Stoves electric double oven / range thingy with an induction hob. There are also 2 standard heating rings and a hot plate. It is the best oven I have ever had. Get one of these and you'll never look back! the induction rings boil water faster than the kettle and you can choose to use the oven with or without the fan.
