Sewing machine advice.

It's my gulp........ 40th birthday in January as I'm not a bling kind of gal I really fancy a sewing machine as my ancient Singer is a bit cranky. I'm a novice when it comes to using a sewing machine. My budget is £50 - £100, I'd like a fairly lightweight machine and nothing too complicated. It needs to be able to sew thick fabric like denim. Any suggestions??? I've seen a couple in the Argos sale that look pretty good but all advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.
