Look on the keyboard for a brightness logo, like the sun!!

Amazing! I was pressing fn and F8 (sun logo) down once :rolleyes:, but just discovered by holding fn down and repeatedly pressing F8 it brightens the screen...thank you so much :T . Now I don't have to make explanations to my granddaughter!0

In the power settings do you have something like Power plan? usually the plans are power saver and high performance. Clicking on the plan you have the brightness levels there. Not sure it is in XP but might be part of the HP preloaded stuff.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740
