Data protection

I know this isn't the right forum to be asking this in really, but i know its full of people who their stuff.
I want to do a data protection thingy on a company, but instead of just sending a ten pound cheque to cover the expenses can I send legal tender to the value of ten pounds instead, just to inconvenience further the company concerned?
I was thinking stamps or scottish one pound notes. I would of course send it registered delivery to protect against nasty postman theft.

Have they actually asked for the £10 ?
the £10 is the MAXIMUM they can charge, there is no legal requirement to charge this or indeed any fee for a S.7 DPA request.
If they do request a fee then it would be best to pay via cheque / postal order, if you are intending on contesting the data and the matter does end up in the hands of the ICO / a court you wont be doing yourself any favours by appearing to be unduly obstructive:rolleyes: It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0 -
They haven't asked for it yet, i was under the impression that it was the amount you had to pay.
I'm not intending on contesting the data, I'm just interested to see what they hold on me.0 -
Just write and ask for a subject access request in line with S.7 Of the DPA to be provided and for them to advise of any fee they may require to action your request.
lots of large company’s will do it for free, some charge £5 others charge the full £10 permissible.
You could always just include the cheque / P.O for £10 and see if they send it back, but why pay if you don’t have too ! It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0 -
I think you are better sending a postal order or a cheque.
It seems a bit petty to send it in any other form just to inconvenience them more. If you are doing this because they have inconvenienced you then I would say don't sink to their level. You wont get any satisfaction out of it as you wont be there to see if you do actually cause them a problem and they may even send it back to you asking for cheques or postal order.0
