Quick question re. sales

Normally, when do the >70% sales start (as opposed to the 30-50% discounts seen on Boxing Day). 30 - 31st Dec or after New Years?

There isn't really a date when the sales change to deeper reductions. It will all depend on the individual retailer and depend on how much sale stock they have and how fast it is selling. They will want to avoid going to further reductions if at all possible.

I usually use the rule of thumb: 2-3 weeks for the more fashion based stores to give further discounts, 4 weeks for the others. Some stores will have then additional levesl such as (and this is a fictional timeline)
    week 1 50% off
week 2 further reductions/new lines added
week 3 further reductions (if not already done)
    week 4 70% off
    week 5 final clearance/final reductions/final clearance
    week 6 all gone.

Gap River Island, Topshop, House of Fraiser...etc are all stores who seem to act similar to the above from what I remember- but never say never- they can change their mindsa at any time!
  • There seems to be a consensus on when Boots do 75% off - but I can't remember when that is, does anyone know?
