a full bottle of port v. my landlord's cream carpet HELP!!!!

as per title really, a full bottle of Taylor's vintage dropped and smashed in the hall on the cream carpet...

We have mopped up as much as we could with a towel (without rubbing), poured on vodka to dilute the stain and covered it with salt

What do we do now?

NOOOOO~ do not use vanish on it you will lock the stain in, firstly you need to absorb as much possible, get a spray bottle of water couple drops of white vinegar, spray and absorb, repeat until all the colour has come out, do not saturate the carpet and do not scrub at it just blot it (dabbing motion) once the colour has come out with just a water spay bottle spray and blot to take the vinegar smell away.

And for pitys sake anyone else using vanish/1001 or anything else that proclaims to be a stain remover chuck it out, all you need is a water/white vinegar mix and that will remove 99% stains if used correctly.
Vanish/1001 and the alike is fine for certain stains but if it doesnt remove the stain 1st attempt it will encapsulate the stain molecules and lock the satin (colour) into the fibres, meaning it cant be removed without bleaching

no problem, such products are ok on certain types of stains, (cant remember now either acidic or alkaline based stains) if they remove it your fine, its when they dont the problem occurs, as i was a carpet cleaner i would see it very often where someone had tried to remove the stain with such products and have just ended up making the stain larger and unremovable. You should only blot aswell by scrubbing your pushing down the moisture (and the colour) deeper into the pile and the carpets backing

It's looking quite scary, the big patch is about 2 foot diameter plus 'spread'...

now I've finished hyperventilating I'm just feeling a tad numb LOL

Will hoover up the salt and carry on blotting

ouch 2 foot thats a lot of spread, but stay calm its going to take a bit of time to remove that much but start from the outside and work your way inwards, a few rolls of kitchen towel is going to be needed lol. Ideally you need a Carpet cleaner to extract and rinse would be much easier and quicker, but just work your way through it

the 2' is just the main patch, the spread is about 4', and it's where the hall bends so I can't disguise it with a pot plant

can I leave it until morning? I'm exhausted already, the carer's in the bath and I can't find a spray bottle and only have half a roll of kitchen towel left :(
