Suject Access Report on old debt

Hi,
this is my first post and I hope someone can give me a bit of advice.
I received a letter from a collection agency today requesting payment for an old debt which was not on my credit report last time I checked. I am fairly sure that I have had no contact with anyone regarding this debt for over 6 years. I found a letter template on the web to send to them pointing out the Limitation Act 1980.
The thing is, I am not 100% sure that it is 6 years since I last acknowledged the debt. My question is – can I write to them requesting a Subject Access Report to check when I last acknowledged this debt. I am concerned that if I do this that it will constitute an acknowledgement of the debt and I will be back to square 1.
Thanks is advance

  • Just send them the standard Do not acknowledge / limitation act letter, the duty is upon them to prove otherwise, not for you to chase around
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
