Have you seen your doctor? I had the same problem and it turned out to be psoriasis - yours might not be but I'd get it checked out.Oh dear, here we go again.0

I am following this with interest as I also have a very itchy scalp and haven't found anything to help. The most helpful thing is peppermint oil which I apply just after washing. It isn't meant to be used neat but I often use it in conjunction with tea tree oil and massage a small amount of it into my scalp. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I suffer with dry itchy scalp a lot and the only thing that stops it is shampoo that has Ketoconazole in it. Not sure how much hair loss your experiencing though as that might be a different issue...worth a visit to docs?
There's a thread here were the poster had the same issue and tried all shop bought stuff, but in the end the only stuff that worked was Nizoral shampoo

Good luck, it drives you mad doesn't it?0 -
I do think as there is hair loss, that you should consult your doctor. I sufer from this on and off and when it's bad the GP gives me a cream to rub on scalp which is wonderful.
I try to keep it at bay with a Kerastase shampoo - the only one I've found that helps but it is rather expensive.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
I use Clynol hair tonic - it's really effective and seems to be a 'secret weapon'.0

If anyone's willing to try an Old Style remedy I can recommend a vinegar rinse. I had an itchy flaky scalp for years but this has worked for me - I think my shampoo was aggravating my scalp and I now use sodium bicarb to wash and vinegar as a "conditioner" - the so called "no poo" method! Vinegar has anti-fungal properties and lowers the pH of the scalp and hair to a level they are happier with - plus it makes my hair smooth and shiny. It also helps rinse away any residue from styling products, shampoos etc.
I dilute it 50/50 when treating my scalp and soak my scalp and hair with it. I leave it on while I shave my legs and wash, then rinse. Some people don't rinse but I do. I also use it in a more dilute form (maybe a tablespoon in a cup of water) as hair conditioner. I find the vinegar smell disappears by the time my hair dries.
I just use plain cheap white vinegar but other people use more expensive ones like apple cider vinegar.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I will carry on for a bit with the coconut oil and cider vinegar, but i will take the advise and see my doctor, as the hair loss is a worry as it feels like i have lost 50% of the volume in the last few months, also it may of been stress,as i was in a job i detested for the last 6 months, but i found a new one i start in the new year, i just walked away from the old one as i couldnt face it any more , so maybe things will improve i hope so0

Could be a fungal infection - the GP will be able to help. I had something similar and they said most people need the prescription shampoo, not the cosmetic stuff from the supermarket.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

T-Gel works for me. I put it on just as I get into the bath then leave it on for 5-10 minutes then rinse. It's better within the hour. A small btl is £4.0
