Advice needed, friend in need!

Hi Everyone! I’m actually on here today to ask about a friend of a friend.
Basically, I know of someone who has gotten into pretty serious debts and is currently unemployed, and because of a mix up, isn’t even receiving job seeker’s at the moment so has nothing coming in. I am not sure how much she owes or who to but I do know she has started received the threatening letters (threatening him with court action) and she still isn’t paying. At what stage do the debt collectors come to visit? She lives with a relative; can bailiffs take their possessions too? What if her possessions amount to less than what she owes? What steps should she take now to sort this mess out? She is looking for employment at the moment.
I have suggested first and foremost to figure out to the penny what she owes and who too and then to maybe obtain a copy of her credit report to see how bad things have got (30 day free trial from Experian of course!) and then to contact the CCCS. Is there anything else I should suggest?

you should advise your friend not to ignore the creditors but to write to each one saying
that she has become unemployed, that she is currently unable to pay her debts, but as soon as she gains employment will restart payment, to show her intention and willingness to pay she should offer to pay a nominal sum each month (£1). she should politely ask them to freeze charges and interest during this difficult period. keep copies of all letters of course.
you dont say how long she has been ignoring her creditors but the longer she leaves it the less inclined her creditors will be to help.
bailiffs can only get involved if she has been summoned to court and had a CCJ against her...she must not ignore a court summons. in the unlikely event that bailiffs get involved they can only take her property and not her relatives...but dont let it go that far.
debt collectors have no legal powers and she can tell them to get lost.0 -
