Returning unwanted gift... Make up

I got a Benefit mascara and concealer for xmas. They probably cost around £15 each.

I already have the same mascara (nearly new!) and the concealer is the wrong shade. Both are unopened.

Not sure where they're from (Benefit have branches in House of Fraser and Boots etc.).

What are my rights for exchanging these items??

Thanks.

Does anyone have 'rights' when they're given a gift? Or do the rights stay with the purchaser?

Unfortunately make up items are usually non-returnable.

    Ebay?
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!
  • rights are with the purchaser and no one else, no 'rights' at all unless items are faulty so 'tis pretty unlikely with those sorts of goods ...

The mascara will keep until your nearly new one is finished. Pass the concealer onto someone who it would suit.

  • Most places will not give refunds or exchanges on make up. If the concealer has a hygiene seal you may get away with it as if you can prove it has not been removed some places may exchange it for another shade, however a refund will be unlikely. You could always try but without a recipt you may have difficulty.

Benefit items do go for a good price on Ebay so if all else fails I would put them on there.
