BFC offer of Roald Dahl box set - advice please

Hi!
On the back of this week's Radio Times (8th to 14th January) there is an offer for a box set of 16 of Roald Dahl's children's books, an offer from BFC (Books For Children). Advertised price £9.99 (plus £2.99 p&p), with the claimed saving of £77
My wife is a big fan of the Roald Dahl books - as a child she did have the complete set, but over the years she loaned them out, and never got them back. She wants to get the full set again, as she wants to be able to read the stories to our children (we have two boys - one 6 months, the other thre and a half). She asked for a box set before Christmas, but I couldn't find one.
Now, we see this advert, and I am seriously considering it.
However....
By purchasing this, we will have committed ourselves to buying at least six books from them over the next year. There is also the worrying inclusion of the "Editor's Choice", which from reading between the lines tells me that if I do not reply to them saying that I do NOT want it, they will send it to us anyway.
Having said all that, we do buy a lot of books for the boys (well, mainly for our eldest at the moment, but there are one or two fabric books for our youngest), and it does promise savings of up to 40% (although I appreciate this could mean something like "all books at a saving of 1% and one rubbish book for 40% off, and p&p could push the price up over the listed rrp)
Has anyone got any experience with BFC? Positive or negative? Is this offer worth considering? If so, what are the pitfalls I need to be aware of?
By the way, if anyone does like the sound of this offer, the code for this offer is H0896, and you can order online at BooksForChildren

don't know much about BFC, but my son (6) is reading Dahl at school, so it has been topic of conversation at school gates! Some have ordered off BFC, but i had the boxset off ebay, from someone who had obviously joined and not wanted them, when i was buying back in November there were lots of them on Ebay. HTH0

I joined BFC a couple of years when they were offering a cheap Beatrix Potter set.
Didn't have any problems with them, although to be honest their 'discounted' rates weren't all that cheap. :-/ I also forgot to cancel the director's choice a couple of times and got lumbered with books that I didn't really want. (But that's more to do with me being disorganised than any fault with the company.) :-/
Also I didn't have internet access back then, but now obviously it would be much easier to cancel books I didn't want online.
Was easy to pick the 6 books over the year though. Especially if you give them as presents etc.
If you can get the Roald Dahl boxset as cheap elsewhere, then Book People and Redhouse are good sources of cheap kids books. No monthly/yearly commitment at all.
Hope that helps. Jo0 -
I got my box set from the book people some time last year. No commitment and v cheap as well.

BFC is ok except being tied ino buying more books, which to be honest are not great discounts. "The Book People" are very good, I got a box set of jacqueline wilson for 10.99 before xmas, selling on ebay for well over 15.00.
BFC,World Books,Red House all tie you into buying more books which is ok if you obviously want them. Buying a one off makes this not such a a good deal I feel. Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -
Don't touch these offers with a barge
pole!
They are a nightmare to get out of once you join. I used to work for 192 & we got so many complaints from people wanting alternative numbers for customer service etc as they coulnd't get through.

I recommend the book people .co.uk as well as the service is good and if there are any questions I have always been able to get through on the phone to them
Their service is excellent and you are not committed to any more purchases in the future."This site is addictive!"

Red House don't tie you into buying more books. In fact, I think they are a sister company of the Book People.0 -
I use the Book People and Red House Books and there is definitely no obligation to but any other books.
Great delivery service too.
Forgot to add that you get Bookpoints when you buy from The Book People which can then be redeemed for free books.0
