Tax Rebate

Hi there,
I was wondering whether I could reclaim tax from this tax year (2009 - 2010).
I have quit my job and won't be working until the next tax year at the earliest (guaranteed as I am at university).
I have my P45 from my job so can I send in a tax rebate request for the tax that was payable from April 2009 -> now. (I earnt under my personal allowance so can claim it all).
I take it that I would just send a letter to my previous tax office as usual and they send me a cheque.
Also, problem is I need to deduct my P60 amount from the amount stated on my P45 as I have already claimed for the tax for the previous tax year.
Thanks.

I dont understand your last sentence, but to reclaim tax for this tax year, you need to download form P50 from www.hmrc.gov.uk and send it with yur P45 to your tax office.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Sorry, I got my forms mixed up, I meant my P60 (now edited).
Basically, I have already claimed tax back for the financial year 2008-2009 and sent in my P60.
Now I have left that job they have issued me with a P45 which has my total earnings whilst at that job. Since I have already reclaimed part of that. I have to deduct the amount on my P60 from the amount on my P45 to get the figure that I can claim back for this financial year.
Make sense now?0 -
No, your P60 will be for the year ened 5/4/09. The P45 will be for this tax year - they are entirely separate.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

^ This is correct ^.
You get a P60 at the end of each tax year and they contain pay and tax details for that tax year only. Just send in a P50, your P45 (make a copy of this) and a cover letter explaining that you will not be earning or getting any taxable income (this includes some benefits such as JSA) and you want them to send you a cheque for any overpaid tax for this tax year.0 -
Sorry guys, your absolutely correct. Guess I didn't realise how much I was spending because I thought I earnt a hell of a lot less than that

So I'm getting tax via emergency at present do I need to wait till I get my P60 to reclaim?
Which form should I use?0 -

Once your employer has processed either a P45 or P46, they will tax you correctly and issue you with the appropriate refund automatically.0 -
