Money4Gold

In November I had a 9 carat gold bracelet valued by a local jeweller at £29. I decided to see what Money4Gold would offer since I had found a link through a cashback site where I would get £15 back if I sold more than 10g of gold.

I contacted Money4Gold and promptly received a freepost special delivery package in which to send my gold to them. I sent it off and about ten days later (November 26) received a cheque for the grand sum of £8.25! I could hardly believe it and immediately phoned Money4Gold to say I was unhappy with their payment as I had been offered £29 by a jeweller. The girl at Money4Gold said she would check that I had received the correct cheque and, having confirmed that I had, she then said she could offer me £24.75. I queried how that was possible since I had only been sent £8.25. She told me that if anybody was unhappy with their offer they could double the offer and remove the Money4Gold expenses. I said I wouldn't accept less than £29 and, after checking with her supervisor, she said that I could have £29.29.

I immediately returned their cheque, as requested, so that they could then process my revised cheque. I telephoned them the next day (November 27) and they confirmed they had received the returned cheque and said I would receive the replacement cheque about a week later.

Over a fortnight later (December 14), on returning from holiday and seeing no cheque had arrived, I phoned Money4Gold and they informed me that I should have received a cheque by then and they would investigate it immediately and let me know within 48 hours what was happening. Two days later I phoned again and was told that the cheque had been processed and would be with me in a few days. I have now received the cheque (December 21).

I would recommend anyone considering using Money4Gold first to get a valuation from a jeweller. Preferably use a cashback site, otherwise it's not worth all the effort to receive the same amount you could receive from a jeweller. Do keep checking on them as I wouldn't have received my cheque if I hadn't chased them for it since it had apparently been overlooked.
