Home Selling/Mortgage Advice needed/sellyourhouseforfree.com (?)

Hello,

Last year I lot my job and was offered a new one with a different organisation in another part of the country. I was then given leave to work in a more local office until my house sold. It's been almost a year now and the house is still not sold and I'm being put under some pressure at work about it.

Anyway, I received a phone call and offer letter from a company called sell your house for free.com with a decent offer, however they want me to pay some cash upfront which has set major alarm bells off.

My solicitors is shut for Xmas, so I've not been able to get their advice, but I wondered if any of you have heard of or had dealings with this firm. Things are a bit desperate now...

Cheers.

J.

Sorry I think this should be in the house selling forum. My mistake...

Also given the pressure I'm under at work I'm considering handing the keys back to the Building Society. Any advice on that would be most useful.

Sellyourhouseforfree is an american website and as such only sells properties in the good old USA so no joy there.
Cant you rent it out for 6/12 months or reduce the price ?
Please dont hand the keys back to the building society as it will end up with them selling the property at auction and you still owing thousands in debts!
Better to get the best price possible GOOD LUCK

As a rule, it is a good idea to avoid any company which offers you something for "free" and then asks you for money for it.

As dimbo61 says, handing back the keys is almost always a bad idea. It will almost always be much better to sell the place yourself, even if it means reducing the price and/or having to take a loan to cover any shortfall.
  • As mentioned it will cost you serious amount of money to "hand the keys back" (presumably you mean a voluntary repossession), they will not do anything you can't do to sell the house, and they will most likely sell it for a very low price AND charge you the costs.

If you haven't sold it then either: the price is too high, the house looks unattractive to buyers, or the agent is not pulling their weight (in fact a good one would be telling you about the first two anyway).

As mentioned it will be much cheaper to drop the price and/or get somebody in to tidy up whatever is putting off buyers. On the agent issue - what are they telling you about why it hasn't sold? If you think they are either slacking or are incompetent then find another and tell them you need a quick sale, and do whatever they reasonably suggest.
  • Jrusso - I have had an offer from this company syh4free.com is the website, use that link to see 20 plus other posts on here. I have stupidly parted with my money have spoken to trading standards and the police and am waiting for them to open again on 4th or 5th for them to send me my money back. Thats if they DO OPEN again. Unsure as yet whether they are genuine or not. Use other link on Syh4free or post me private message. Dont do anything until I have let you know what happens. Regards

Also had offer from this company. Also stupidly paid up-front. Last phone call said developer wanted house, we were in block of 4 ready to complete in April. Solicitor told me to drop this company and use Estate Agent instead but since I am in no hurry to sell, I am inclined to wait and see what happens, I have lost money anyway. No-one have ANY successful dealings with this company?
