A better alternative to annuities?

Ignoring the self-aggrandising delusional postings of some people on this thread...

Maybe the OP should look at income drawdown as an option

I'm a long while away from taking my pension myself but I think you don't have to take an annuity until you are 75 now

This way you can keep control of your investments and draw your own income (within quite strict government set limits on how much you can take out)

I think you don't even need to take drawdown at 75 now if you can show a alternative guaranteed income stream at a high enough level (subject to lots more government rules)

Mind you, if you do have medical problems, a specialist annuity that takes into account your medical problems into the life expectancy calculations is at least worth looking at as an option

However, if I was looking at one of these specialist annuities I would be looking very carefully at who is providing it

Dunstonh gave timely warnings and ongoing updates regards the company and its deeply dodgy products. Calling "shenanigans" in the face of ongoing threats takes guts, and I for one thank him for doing it.

The OP did a "spam and run" many years ago.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Its a pain that its the major choice but when compared to everything else, nothing beats pension contributions and an annuity for provision of income in retirement.

I suggest you go back to researching all the available options with an open mind and without bias. This is a once in a lifetime decision and its not a time to be so closed minded.

Perhaps you should take some of your own advice, after all you are an IFA

Yeah I didn't notice the first post was a couple of years old...

Complaining about stuff on the internet might take guts in China...

...but not really in the uk :rotfl:

I take it that you're unfamiliar with the well-deserved reputation of the UK libel laws?

Actually if you have any examples of UK libel laws being applied in respect of internet bulletin boards I would be quite interested?

I think there have been examples of market abuse cases successfully prosecuted by the FSA involving ramping share bulletin boards like ADVFN or Motley Fool...

..and there was that guy who got imprisoned for putting a picture of what he looted in the london riots up on his facebook page :rotfl:

    Maybe start here?

Bear in mind that while actual action is still fairly rare, threats of such being used in attempts to silence people are *very* common.

I have received such threats, albeit heavily-veiled, and have just told those making them to refer to Arkell v. Pressdram.

I'm sure it will come as a surprise to everyone, but some people who use the internet aren't very clever!

Okay when you actually read the article it says cases DOUBLED in a year...

    from 8 to 16...oh

that's less than "fairly rare" considering the amount bile that splatters the internet

When someone threatens me...i think i'll just ignore it :)

    from 8 to 16.

You asked for cases. Are 16 not enough?

I suspect you're so used to it that you'd barely notice.
