Sounds like a way of harvesting email addresses to use them for spam (sorry "marketing") emails.

The Terms & Conditions say:

12. Details of entries will be kept on a database and may be used and passed to third parties to enable the processing of Competition and prize fulfilment. This information may be used by ShortList Media Ltd or the providers of the prize for marketing purposes.
13. All entrants to competitions and offers are deemed to have accepted these rules and agreed to be bound by them and agree to co-operate in any publicity that may arise which may include their name or image being used on websites, magazines or mobile services at any time as a result of the competition.

I'd not worry too much as loads of shortlist comps are posted on here & we tend be quite on the ball at spotting the spammers.
What I tend to do is have a seperate email for comps,put filters on for certain words,and accept that junk mail is just a byproduct of comping.
