Smelly Fusty Drawers

I have some drawers in a rather closed in walkin wardrobe, I noticed when I took a scarf out it smelt horrible:eek:, as did everything else, so I took all the drawers outside, washed them thoroughly with a bleach solution and left them in the fresh air to dry. Unfortunately there is still a rather unpleasant smell lingering! I have tried lots of fresh air sprays and Fabreze but not much help. Please can anyone suggest a way of getting rid of this smell, as I will be left with no alternative but to throw them out which would be a real shame.

Hi,
My mum had an incident with an open fire, everything (carpet, suite) smelt of smoke, she sprinkled everything with bicarb of soda overnight an vacuumed up in the morning, so maybe the stuff absorbs smell??? i dunno, worth a try to save throwing them out.

Ok, I know this sounds odd but it's an old remedy for when we used the nit lotion back in the day. Remember how that would stink the place out? Try cutting an onion in half, placing it in a bowl of water and sticking the bowl in the wardrobe. It will draw in the smell, the water will change colour to prove it to you. And no, your drawers won't then smell of onions - it's a one way thing!0

Another alternative is to leave them out in the sun for a few hours, I bought a sewing machine and when the box was opened it smelt foul, I put the box in the garden in a shady bit and left it for a week, the smell went and did not return, although I must admit I used to keep a free sample of bounce in it and did not shut the lid, perhaps once you get rid of the smell you could leave the drawers and wardrobe door slight open so the air circulates?
