Hi
Please excuse me if this has been answered recently, if so could some kind soul point me in the right direction, if not...
Ive been growing my own Strawberry's and Raspberry's. Ive been freezing the strawberry's and im after any ideas to use them apart from in smoothies and im no cake maker!!!.
With the Raspberry's are they ok to just wash and freeze only im sure i remember my grandad telling me to soak them in salted water first to kill any bugs?????? Has anyone else heard of this? Or perhaps it was his pickled onions and im getting confused!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Thanks

i dont wash my rasps before freezing i just spread them out on a tray and handpick the best for freezing usually just put them in a plastic icecream box for jam making in the winter tho you can space them out in a tray and open freeze before packing0

I don't wash them either, I just check them over carefully for any bugs and open freeze them then shove them in a bag or container.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Me too, open freeze them on a tray and then bag them up. I use strawberries with apples in crumbles and also in jellies as fuit jelly for dessert. you can aso use them to make stawberry conserve, I think I put a recipe on for this recently, you can use frozen straberries as well as fresh.

My dad said to wash the blackberries in salted water to get rid of the bugs before eating. I must say i do this still when im out picking in lanes.0

You could also make some coulis/sauces with them and freeze these in little pots.
Just put the berries in a blender with seived icing sugar and blitz until smooth. Use the coulis to make puddings e.g. Eton Mess, summer pudding (the Gordon Ramsay way) or simply to drizzle over ice-cream.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
If there were any bugs, they'll be dead after you've frozen the fruit! I open freeze on trays and then pack in freezer containers, although I normally end up using the strawberries before I get to that point. I've just made strawberry ice cream - yum.0

Don't wash raspberries, they will turn to mush.
You can use both berries to make a quick ice cream for immediate consumption.Put frozen berries into a blender with a couple of spoonfuls of yogurt/cream/fromage frais/juice + some sugar and blitz -instant ice cream.Don't put it in the freezer as it will become rock hard and won't soften satisfactorily.Eat straight away.0
