Jamie did what looked like a beautiful roast veg selection including turnip
    http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/chefs/jamie-oliver/roast-vegetable-mega-mix-recipe_p_1.html

It follows the principal of acid & oil. I've always roasted my veg with lemon juice so I guess it makes sense.

  • The obvious carrot and turnip mashed with butter and pepper.
If it's just on it's own, add plenty of butter, so that the flavour of the butter is more dominant than the turnip, mash with a potato masher until it's how you like it.
Curried turnip tastes wonderful! Fry onion add a teaspoon of cummin and coriander (one of each) and cubed turnip and fry for a few more minutes. Add a little water (enough to keep it moist), and cook until soft. add salt to taste.

When you say turnip, is that what we English call swede  Is it sort of spherical and orange flesh (swede) or smaller, flatter, and white fleshed, with a purplish tinge (turnip) :D

Yummy. Mash it with loads of butter and black pepper, or roast it with honey or maple syrup. Add some herbs. Saw that on Jamie's Christmas cooky show thing. That's what I'm doing with my carrots and parsnips.

ok ty !! got some still boiling after about 7 hours lol, to be mashed with butter. Also some in the remoska to roast. Will let you know how it goes... shiver :)
  • Mardatha, put the turnip straight down the toilet. It stinks to high heaven eeeek. I hate the stuff with a vengeance. It's like someone's been let loose in your house with a wind issue. Have extra sprouts and make the smell yersel.

I hope you had a lovely day, turnip or turnip-less.
