Surrendering Endowments - what next

I am seriously thinking of cashing in my endowment policies to pay off debts.
This would leave us near enough debt free.
The endowments are no longer linked to my mortgage and I was using them as a savings/pension plan.
So my question is, with the money we have been paying into these endowments, we plan to put into some other type of savings or pension plan that offers a good return. But we may need the option to dib into, for instance to help children at Uni etc (when they get to that age etc).
Ideas please

Regards
Mike

You need to get on the debt free board and old style board in order to save money and not overspend each month.
If you have no mortgage to pay off from the endowments then how you use the money from the sale of the endowments is your buisness.
I would save into Cash ISA,s £3600 this year and £5100 from April 2010 !
At least the money earned is TAX free even if rates are poor ( at the moment)
