Feeling Rather Depressed about Bank Charges.

-Sigh-
I just wanted to post somewhere that I was feeling really down about bank charges. It's totally outrageous and I feel really helpless about it.
I only earn £260 a month because I'm on an NVQ placement. I work really hard in a Special Needs School, and this month I've been charged £175 for money that has come out of my bank. This is BEFORE I pay off the amount that I owe, which is £54, and then after that I have to pay my insurance, Critical Illness Insurance and Mobile Phone Bill.
So...
-£54
+£260 =
£206
-£175 (Bank Charges) =
£31
-£8 (Phone Insurance) =
£23
-£15 (Critical Illness Cover) =
£8
-£45 (Phone Bill) =
-£37.
So, how on earth am I going to actually get out of this? This is before I buy myself food (Which I haven't got much of anyway at the moment.)
This is really ridiculous and I feel so depressed about it...

Thanks lynz. I've saved a copy of the letter to my harddrive, I'm in the process of finding out how much they owe me and opening a new bank account with someone else incase it all goes Pete Tong.0

Sounds like a difficult month - have you tried the old style board for help with the food for less than £40 - is this for a month now? It'll be hard - poor you - but you can do it!!!

Also you could post a SOA (see sticky post at the top of the forum for advice on this) as £45 for mobile seems pretty high - we could help out?

Hello Ollie,
Before sending off your official letter requesting a refund for your bank charges, it might be worth phoning them and asking them (ever so ever so nicely) to refund this month's charges. It's worked for me in the past.
Do still send your letter though for all the previous months/years, just don't mention it when you phone them!

Also, you don't need phone insurance. Phone up and get it cancelled as soon as you can.0

Definitely challenge them using the consumeractiongroup website posted above - as far as I know it always works - the last thing they want is to be challenged in court - don't back down until they refund them, but do your homework first. Good luck.0
