hi everyone,
does anyone know what would happen if for instance i had a final bill from an old electricity supplier and without even opening the bill just return it back to them saying "no longer a resident"
what would happen?
Best wishes
Luke

They would probably send another letter, then another, then another.....All comments and advice given is my own opinion and does not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.

..then a credit search to see where you'd moved to....
Just pay it!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
If you applied for new utility services i.e Gas Elec Phone Water, at the new address they will all I.D check you before they start supply.lukemed1 wrote:how would where I'd moved to show up on a credit search??

they will normally ask for a previous address as part of this process, and when they search your new address as well as you old address a link is made.
Links can also be made from elector roll information, and when you tell your bank or any other current creditors that you have moved they also update the CRA's with address link information. It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0 -
lenders put in 'linked addresses' ie if you move house... cc company, bank etc will advise credit ref agency of new address. (as far as I know!)
Also if you apply for any credit etc at current adress that'll show up too, so they'll know you are still there.
If there aren't any they may know you haven't moved; similarly if you are still on electoral roll, they will know.Debt free 4th April 2007.

I can tell you from personal experience that this is exactly what they will do. Then they will call at the address.
They will do this even after you have told them five times that the property they are writing to no longer exists and has been demolished and replaced by a block of flats and no, I don't know what they did with your gas meter.
It took nearly three years to get this through to British Gas and they only stopped sending accounts and turning up when I finally took them to the flats myself and showed them. I then gave them the builder's details and they said they would take it up with them.0 -
If you're having trouble paying them, could you not contact them to arrange a payment plan? Or maybe post a Statement of Affairs (SOA) of your income and expenditure, and we'll see how we can help out.Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!0
