Are these biscuits suitable for my Muslim friends??

I always exchange gifts with my lovely neighbours. Can anyone Muslim tell me whether the biscuits I have bought as a gift for my Muslim neighbour are suitable, please? I have checked the M&S website but can't spot them on the Vegetarian list but I can't see any non vegetarian ingredients myself. I don't want to give anything which isn't suitable

(I don't usually give them food but I ran out of ideas and bought these when they were on special offer )

They are M&S Belgian Collection Chocolate biscuits - I can list the ingredients if that helps but I will wait and see if anyone responds first.

Thanks a lot,
(Board guide please do move this if you think I will get a reply elsewhere)

  • Hi, my bil is Muslim and I know that he does not eat any pork type meat, but does eat chicken etc.

Seriously though I would not over worry about it, I am sure they will appreciate the gesture.
  • as long as there is no animal fats or alcohol content then they should be fine...

Depends how strict they are really, a lot of muslims really aren't that fussed (if you've ever witnessed the mad scramble for the 10p yellow sticker blitz at the end of the night at Sainsbury's in Cheadle you'll know what I mean!)

Make sure they do not have gelatine in. If they do then they are not suitable. Other than that should be ok as long as alcohol free and have no meat in, not that chocolate should have meat in.

  • Thanks - you have put my mind at rest. Can't see anything dodgy (found it weird no "V" symbol for vegetarian though). They are VERY strict but won't be offended - they just won't eat it if not suitable and then it's just a waste!

  • There are a lot of e number ingredients that Muslims are not allowed. Some chocs and biccis also have some sort of alcohol or liquors in them, therefore rendering them unsuitable.

However, I am not sure about these. If your neighbours are strict, then they really should check b4 comsumption. Great gesture though.

im a muslim (a strict one at that when it comes to food anyway!!!)
no GELATINE and no ALCOHOL chocolates, apart from that chocs ok. regarding meat well no pork beef chicken etc from the supermarkets anyway. the only meat muslims eat is halal meat which can only be brought from halal butchers. However l know which biscuits you are talking about op and they are absolutley fine, im sure ur neighbours will really like your gesture. l know l would, my neighbour an elderly lady used to every year give us a box of biscuits and a £10 in a card, she was a darling. Even though we dont celebrate xmas she made such a effort and we would always give her a big box of chocolates and some lovely flowers. bless her.

My mate told my mum peas were Haram (unclean forbidden to Muslims) when we were kids. They aren't he just hated peas. When his mum and my mum met up he was in big trouble.

My BIL gets his meat from an Halal butcher, when he comes over to my mum's he has to bring over his own meat as in my town there is no provisions for Muslims as it is a little costal town, unfortunetly no ethnic diversity.
