Dont forget to feed the birds this christmas

The birds are very hungry and cant find nothing to eat. I feed them left overs and all kinds of things.
I have a packet of meusli we dont like, so I put some of that in a bowl and added water to it. I then added chopped apple, some chopped fat and some left over tuna It looked Yucky but the birds loved it.
Tomorrow they are getting meusli, left over mincemeat and some left over sausage.
If you put it by the window you get a free nature program and you have done a good deed for the day:A

i'm wary, and so are the birds, of next doors 2 cats (we have victorian open yards). but the birds looked hungry and were actually in the gardens for once! so by the hedge i put out bread, old cooking nuts we wont use, and the cut up rid of bacon and fat/rind of a Mr Ms gammon hock. There are more birds than i've ever seen in the garden! (5!) and the cats are hiding in doors!

My husband came back from posting cards yesterday with a pack of Fat balls from the shop down the road so the birds can have a Christmas morning treat. Bless him, he's usually such a scrooge!

We have loads of birds daily in our garden, they get fruit and seed, we even have names for some of them :rotfl: No matter what the weather is they get fed, we love our little birdies :)

I regularly put out food for the birds too, all sorts of things, muesli, cheese, dried fruit etc. I have some rice I want to get rid of, don't use it. Is it best to give it to them as it is or is it better cooked, does anyone know please?

    Taken from RSPB website
Cooked rice, brown or white (without salt added) is beneficial and readily accepted by all species during severe winter weather. Uncooked rice may be eaten by birds such as pigeons, doves and pheasants but is less likely to attract other species.

  • remember to soak nuts and rice in water first as they may swell inside small birds and kill them.
