Has anybody ever had the cheek to ask for their bank/credit card supplier to remove any late payments on a credit file and been successful?

I have read http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1262355&postcount=2 and this poster seems to have had some success with HSBC. I was wondering if anybody else had done the same and came out with the result they wanted?
