Hi All
I am going through a messy divorce and my estranged other half has stopped paying the mortgage, it is now in arrears of £7,000 and is now being referred to solicitors for repossesion. (We have a suspended order on it) I am able to pay £400 a month towards the mortgage but cannot afford the arrears. The mortgage is currently £1218 a month, and is going on the market in January. The Woolwich has told me that unless i can pay the arrears they cannot except my offer of £400 a month until the house is sold. Is it worth paying the arrears with a credit card?
My husband used to pay all of the mortgage and I pay a share of the utilities and support our youngest who is in private rented Uni digs. He says he will not pay anything towards the mortgage unless I start paying towards it as well.

Having problems with your mortgage payments?
Facing the prospect of repossession can be frightening, but it’s important to remember that you are not alone. There is a lot of help available from government, from lenders and from advice agencies. The information here will give you the tools you need to prevent your home being repossessed. You'll also find stories from some of the 300,000 homeowners who have already received help and advice.

If the mortgage was in both names this will destroy his credit score as well as yours.
Is there equity in the property ?
IE if the mortgage company reposses the property will you( both ) still owe money after the property has been sold at auction!0 -
Are you dealing with the Woolwich in writing by recorded delivery or are your speaking to the collections department on the telephone? They should not be refusing your offer of partial payment, as obviously this will get you into further debt. Some of these guys are on commission and when you deal with them by phone ... they lie to get you to pay.
I would strongly recommend you continue to pay what you can afford, deal with the bank in writing using a template letter from the Debt-free Wannabe board, speak to one of the debt charities (e.g. CCCS or Payplan) and inform the lender of your case reference number. Do not speak to any debt collectors on the telephone, refuse to answer the security questions and they are not legally allowed to discuss your arrears.
Are you able to take in a lodger to help pay the mortgage? The income will be tax free up to around £4k a year.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

I feel that the red sentence is misleading. Barclays staff are salaried but like a lot of industries are targetted. Calls are recorded and are monitored so will not be able to lie as you state. I work for the company so know that I am correct.
However, I agree that yohould speak with someone. Normally the CAB are very good at assisting with mortgage arrears. There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -

I'm a Woolwich mortgage customer and have phoned Woolwich three times - once before taking the mortgage and twice since to ask questions of them. I've spoken to three different people and every time they have been friendly and helpful. I daresay that, like any group of people, there are those who are better-informed than others, those who are nicer than others, and those who are having better days than others.0
