Anyone know any local dealerships which might provide a FREE courtesy car. Wife's Renault has a problem with dashboard apparently draining battery and although car is outside warranty Renault have said that they may contribute to cost of repair (ex diagnostic check at £60/£80!!! + at least £100 for replacement dash) to have it repaired. Apparently some of the dealerships do not offer "courtesy cars" any longer but can offer to provide a cheap rental vehicle!!!??? Obviously I am reluctant to pay any more for what is after all a manufacturing fault (Renault's own admission) which has apparently been an issue in other vehicles. Anyone else had any issues with dashboard going blank or causing battery to drain?

Is it a Scenic? Check here:

Fight Renault via the dealership every inch of the way and as it is a manufacturing fault and not 'wear and tear' moving parts, it should last the life of the car.0 -
Is it an Espace by any chance?
We had battery draining issues, it eventually turned out that there was a batch of faulty radios installed that were doing it.
I think there was a manufacturers recall, we had the radio disconnected for ages before they installed another one.
Charles Hurst renault in Newtownards do our work. I dont know if they provide a free courtesy car though. Sorry, I think they might but you have to pay £40 or so for the change of insurance and it wasnt worth the hassle for us.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
Thanks guys. It's a Scenic and dealership can now provide a courtesy car but we have to pay £10p/day for insurance. That's on top of the diagnostics check and cost of replacement.0

Why do you have to pay £10 a day for insurance? Can you not just let your own insurance company know and get it covered that way?Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

There is a fee to transfer the insurance to a different car,I think that was £40.Norn Iron Club member 4730

I'd argue that point. I'm with Direct Line and there's no fee specifically for changing, only if there's a big difference in insurance groups. The only firm that ever charged me to put a courtesy car on temporarily was Elephant and that was £15. If they argue, take your business somewhere else next time!Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0
